Thermo-Shield® Roof Coat

Safety Data Sheet

Thermo-Shield® Roof Coat is a high-performance, energy-saving, water-based acrylic roof coating engineered with vacuum ceramic microsphere technology. These microscopic ceramic spheres form sealed air cells that create a seamless, flexible membrane and a highly efficient thermal barrier over the roof surface.

This non-toxic, low-VOC coating bridges hairline cracks, resists harsh chemicals and dirt pickup, and delivers excellent UV protection. With high reflectance and emittance and very low thermal conductivity, Thermo-Shield® Roof Coat significantly reduces heat penetration, thermal shock, and noise transmission—keeping roof surfaces cooler in hot weather while maintaining flexibility in extreme temperatures.

Typical Uses

Roof coating systems where seams, joints, cracks, and penetrations are reinforced with polyester fabric, or anywhere a durable, weather-resistant, membrane-like coating is required.

Key Performance

  • Reflectance: 89%
  • Emittance: 94%
  • Thermal Conductivity: 0.05 W/m·K
  • VOC: 39.5 g/L (0.33 lbs/gal)
  • Service Temperature: –40°C to 204°C (–40°F to 400°F)
  • Flexibility: Remains flexible to –45.6°C (–50°F)
  • Water Ponding Resistance: Excellent
  • Warranty: See system requirements

Substrate Compatibility

Excellent adhesion to wood, urethane foam, galvanized steel, aluminum, asphalt shingles, concrete, asbestos, and more.

Moisture Management

  • Variable Permeability: Breathable when dry, watertight when wet
  • Allows trapped moisture vapour to escape while preventing water intrusion

Film Thickness Requirements

  • Flat Roofs: 700 microns DFT (27 mils)
  • Sloped / Pitched Roofs: 300 microns DFT (12 mils)

Colors

White and custom colours available
Note: Darker colours provide lower reflectivity.

Primer

  • Primer is generally not required.
  • Bitumen roofs: Acrylic Flex Tac bonding coat required
  • Rusty surfaces: Rust treatment required before application
